Privacy Policy

ActuallyCook (“ActuallyCook”, “we”, “us”) is operated by Arshia Shahidi, an individual developer based in Türkiye, and is the data controller for the personal data described here. ActuallyCook turns recipe videos and pasted text into structured, cookable plans. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to our website at actuallycook.com (including the waitlist) and to the ActuallyCook iOS app — together, the “Service”. By using the Service you agree to the practices described here.
01Information we collect
We keep data collection to what the product needs to work:
- Account details — your email address, name, profile photo, and language preference, provided when you create an account or sign in (including via Google or Apple sign-in).
- Waitlist details — if you join the waitlist on our website, your email address (and the fact that you signed up) so we can notify you about launch and updates.
- Recipe content — the video links and text you paste, and the structured recipes, ingredients, grocery lists, and Cook Mode steps we generate from them.
- Photos you upload — images you choose to add while using Cook Mode (for example, progress photos), which are stored to provide that feature.
- Subscription & purchase data — your plan, entitlements, and purchase status. Payments are processed by the Apple App Store; we receive purchase and renewal status but not your full payment-card details.
- Usage & analytics data — how you interact with features like importing and Cook Mode, so we can understand and improve the product.
- Device & technical data — app version, device model, operating system, IP address, app/analytics identifiers, and crash logs, for security, debugging, and stability.
- Device permissions you grant — with your permission, the app may use your camera and photo library (to add a dish photo) and your device’s calendar and reminders (to help you plan meals and build shopping lists). You can change these in your device settings at any time.
- Cookies & similar technologies — on our website, as described in section 04.
02How we use your information
We use the information above to:
- generate your recipes, ingredient lists, grocery lists, and Cook Mode from the content you provide;
- sync your saved recipes across your devices;
- create and secure your account, and manage your subscription and free import allowance;
- send you service messages you ask for (such as the waitlist welcome email and launch notification) and respond to your requests;
- measure and improve the product, fix bugs, and keep the Service secure and reliable.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
03Content you import
When you import a recipe by sharing a link or pasting text, we process the content you provide — including using artificial intelligence — to generate your structured recipe, ingredient list, and Cook Mode steps. We use that content to create your recipe and operate the Service for you. Generated results can be incomplete or inaccurate; see our Terms of Service for the related disclaimers, including on food safety and allergens.
04Cookies, analytics & your choices
On our website, we use privacy-first analytics. Before you respond to our cookie banner, analytics run in an anonymous, cookieless mode (we measure page views and traffic source without setting cookies or a persistent identifier). If you accept, we store a cookie so we can recognize your device across visits; you can decline and continue using the site.
In the app, we use product analytics and crash reporting tied to your account to understand usage and fix problems. You can control some collection through your device settings (for example, limiting ad/identifier tracking and push notifications).
We also use push notifications and iOS Live Activities to support features like Cook Mode timers; you can turn these off in your device settings.
05Service providers we share data with
We share data only with trusted providers who help us run ActuallyCook, and only to the extent they need it to perform their service. They are bound to protect your data and not use it for their own purposes. These include providers for:
- cloud hosting and infrastructure;
- account authentication and sign-in;
- payment processing and subscription management;
- processing the content you submit to generate your recipes;
- storing the photos you upload;
- sending emails;
- product analytics and crash/error monitoring.
We may also disclose information where required by law, to protect our rights or users’ safety, or in connection with a business transfer (such as a merger or acquisition).
06International data transfers
ActuallyCook is operated from, and many of our providers are located in, the United States and other countries. If you use the Service from outside those countries, your information may be transferred to and processed there, where data-protection laws may differ from your own. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.
07Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can ask us to delete your account and personal data at any time (see section 08); we action verified deletion requests within 30 days, except where we must retain limited records to meet legal, security, or accounting obligations. Anonymous or aggregated data that no longer identifies you may be retained for analytics.
08Your rights & choices
You can request access to, correction of, a copy of, or deletion of your personal data by contacting us at hello@actuallycook.com. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the EU/UK GDPR or the CCPA/CPRA — including the right to object to or restrict certain processing, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. We honor verified requests at no cost and will not discriminate against you for exercising them.
09Security
We protect data in transit and at rest with industry-standard encryption, and we limit internal access to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, but we work continuously to keep your information safe.
10Children
ActuallyCook is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
11Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves. When we make material changes we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email.
