Stuck on something, or found a bug? Email hello@actuallycook.com and a real person — the developer — will reply, usually within two business days. ActuallyCook is built and supported by one person, so every message is read directly. The answers below cover what we hear most.

01Getting started#

Which videos can I import into ActuallyCook?#

YouTube and TikTok cooking videos, and plain recipe text you paste in yourself. Instagram links are not supported yet — if you paste one, the import won’t work. Paste the recipe text manually instead.

What do I need to run ActuallyCook?#

An iPhone running iOS 17 or later. ActuallyCook is built for iPhone — there’s no iPad, Android, or web version yet.

How do I sign in to ActuallyCook?#

With Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google. ActuallyCook never asks you to create or remember a password.

02Importing recipes#

How do I import a recipe?#

Paste a video link into the import field, or share the video to ActuallyCook from another app using the iOS share sheet — no copy-pasting needed. Extraction usually takes 15 to 30 seconds.

Why did my import fail?#

Some videos simply have no usable description, captions, or transcript for us to read. When there isn’t enough information, the app tells you rather than guessing. Try a different video, or paste the recipe text in manually.

Why is ActuallyCook asking me to confirm an ingredient?#

Because the video was ambiguous about a quantity, and we’d rather ask than invent a number. This is deliberate — a fabricated “2 cups” sends you to the shop for the wrong thing. A quick confirmation beats a confident guess.

Can I edit a recipe after importing it?#

Yes. Every ingredient, quantity, and step is editable after import.

03Cooking#

What is Cook Mode?#

Cook Mode walks you through a recipe one step at a time with built-in timers. The current step and any running timers stay on your Lock Screen and Dynamic Island, so you never have to touch your phone with messy hands.

Why aren't my cooking timers alerting me?#

Check three things, in order:

  • Notifications are enabled for ActuallyCook in iOS Settings → Notifications
  • Live Activities is turned on for ActuallyCook in the same screen
  • Your ringer or notification volume isn’t silenced

Can I change the number of servings?#

Yes — adjust the servings on a recipe and the ingredient quantities scale with it.

How do I send my grocery list to Apple Reminders?#

Tap the grocery list action on any recipe. If nothing appears, confirm ActuallyCook has Reminders access under iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Reminders.

04ActuallyCook Pro#

What's free, and what needs ActuallyCook Pro?#

Every account includes 5 free AI imports. After that, ActuallyCook Pro unlocks unlimited imports as a monthly or yearly subscription. Recipes you’ve already imported stay available either way.

How do I cancel my ActuallyCook Pro subscription?#

Subscriptions are billed by Apple, not by us. Open iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions, choose ActuallyCook, and cancel. You keep access until the end of the period you’ve paid for.

How do I restore a purchase?#

Sign in with the same Apple Account you subscribed with and your subscription restores automatically. If it doesn’t appear, email hello@actuallycook.com.

How do I get a refund?#

Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. We can’t issue them directly, but tell us what went wrong and we’ll help.

05Your account and data#

How do I delete my account?#

Email hello@actuallycook.com from the address on your account and we’ll permanently delete your account and everything in it. Note that deleting your account does not cancel an active subscription — cancel that in iOS Settings first.

What data does ActuallyCook store, and why?#

Everything we collect, why we collect it, and who it’s shared with is set out in our Privacy Policy.

06Reporting a problem#

How do I report a bug?#

Email us. The most useful reports include:

  • The video link you were importing
  • Your iPhone model and iOS version
  • What you expected to happen, and what happened instead
  • A screenshot or screen recording — these help most of all

How do I request a feature?#

Send it. ActuallyCook is built by one developer who reads every message, and a lot of what’s in the app came from exactly these emails.

Still stuck?

Email hello@actuallycook.com — we read every message.
